“Heads Up For Safety” Campaign Kick-Off!
“Heads Up For Safety” kicked off with the Bridgeport Police Department Bike Safety Rodeo, May 23, at Cesar A. Batalla School in Bridgeport with more than 80 elementary students participating. Each bicycle helmet was fitted by Officer Mike Sigrist and his team at the Bridgeport Police Department. Students then participated in a bike safety obstacle course. Shoreline Prime Food Truck provided free food to the event. The Bridgeport Police Department will be scheduling future Bike Safety Rodeos this summer and fall.
“The goal of ‘Heads Up For Safety’ is to reduce youth head injuries, by distributing more than 1,000 free bike helmets to Bridgeport youth and educating kids and parents about street and bike safety,” said Luis Rivera, Director of Safe Kids Connecticut.
“Heads Up For Safety” is funded by a coalition of area public and private stakeholders. Trantolo & Trantolo, Connecticut’s Personal Injury Law Firm, began and is spearheading “Heads Up For Safety” in Bridgeport, in partnership with Safe Kids Connecticut and the Bridgeport Police Department.
“Working together we are hopeful of distributing and fitting more than 1,000 free bike helmets to Bridgeport kids and hopefully we can start cutting down the number of youth bike injuries occurring in Bridgeport,” said Keith Trantolo of Trantolo & Trantolo.
